MARDOG IGP/Schutzhund Dumbbells — Complete Set

Handmade in Poland · Solid Beechwood · IGP/Schutzhund Regulation · Available Individually or as a Set

Three regulation-weight dumbbells. One trusted maker. The MARDOG IGP Dumbbell Set covers all three phases of Schutzhund/IGP obedience retrieves with solid beechwood construction, regulation-compliant weights, and the handcraft quality MARDOG is known for in Poland. Whether you're training a dog from foundation through IGP III or building out your club's equipment inventory, this set gives you everything you need in one purchase.

  • Full IGP coverage: 650g (IGP I), 1000g (IGP II), and 2000g (IGP III).
  • Solid beechwood: Dense, durable hardwood that holds up to repeated retrieves, carry work, and outdoor training conditions.
  • Regulation compliant: Sized and weighted to IGP/Schutzhund trial standards for use in club training and competition.
  • Clean, consistent construction: Smooth finish for a comfortable, reliable grip — no rough edges, no splinters, no surprises.
  • Handmade in Poland: Each dumbbell is individually crafted by MARDOG and inspected before shipment.

IGP Weight Guide — Metric & Freedom Units 🦅

  • 650g — IGP I: Approximately 1.43 lbs. The starting weight for IGP Phase B retrieves. Right around the heft of a can of soup — substantial enough for your dog to feel, light enough to carry confidently.
  • 1000g — IGP II: Approximately 2.2 lbs. A noticeable step up — about the weight of a full water bottle. Requires a dog with solid retrieve mechanics and a calm, committed carry.
  • 2000g — IGP III: Approximately 4.4 lbs. This is where it gets serious — roughly the weight of a half-gallon of milk in Freedom Units. A strong, confident retrieve at this weight is a real statement of training.

Set vs. Individual — What to Buy

  • Buy the set if you're training through multiple IGP levels, running a club that trains dogs at different stages, or want to have all three weights on hand without thinking about it again.
  • Buy individual if your dog is currently working at a specific level and you only need one weight, or you're replacing a worn dumbbell without restocking the others.

Quick tip: Don't wait until your dog is trialing at IGP II to introduce the 1000g dumbbell. Start exposing your dog to the heavier weights in low-pressure training sessions well before trial prep — the weight transition is much smoother when it's not new on trial day.

Made by MARDOG in Poland. Each dumbbell is handcrafted and inspected before leaving the facility.

FAQs

Which weight does my dog need for their IGP level? IGP I requires the 650g dumbbell, IGP II requires the 1000g, and IGP III requires the 2000g — these are the regulation weights set by the FCI IGP trial rules. If you're training toward a specific title, make sure you're working with the correct weight well before your trial date.
Is beechwood a good choice for IGP dumbbells? Yes — beechwood is the standard material for IGP dumbbells across virtually all top European manufacturers. It's dense enough to hold regulation weight, hard enough to resist bite wear, and smooth enough to provide a consistent grip surface for your dog. It's what the sport has used for decades for good reason.
Can I use these dumbbells for trial, or are they training-only? These are full regulation IGP/Schutzhund dumbbells — they are appropriate for both club training and official trial competition. Always verify equipment compliance with your specific trial judge or club if you have any questions before the event.
Should I buy the set or individual dumbbells? The set makes sense if you're working toward multiple IGP levels or running club sessions with dogs at different stages — having all three weights on hand is genuinely useful and the set saves you money versus buying individually later. If you're only at one level right now and budget is a factor, the individual option lets you buy exactly what you need today.
How do MARDOG dumbbells compare to other brands? MARDOG is a Polish protection sport equipment manufacturer with a strong reputation for quality handcraft across their sleeve and equipment line. Their dumbbells are built to the same regulation standards as other well-known European makers — solid beechwood, clean construction, and consistent weight. A reliable choice whether you're buying your first dumbbell or adding to an existing setup.
